Looking Out for Kids (LOFK) is an annual charity fundraising initiative to support vision care services to underprivileged children in Philadelphia and its surrounding communities. Originating in 2007, LOFK hosts an annual gala event to raise funds to support The Eye Institute (TEI) of Salus University’s School Vision Program, which provides more than 3,000 vision screenings, several hundred comprehensive eye exams and dispenses nearly 1,000 pairs of glasses each year.
2017 Lighthouse Award Recipient: Shelly Yanoff
This year’s Lighthouse Award recipient is Shelly Yanoff, former Executive Director of Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) from 1986-2012. PCCY works to improve the lives of the Philadelphia region’s children by developing initiatives and advocating for quality healthcare, child care, public education and family stability, initiatives that have comprised Shelly’s entire career.

Shelly has devoted her life to ensuring children have access to critical healthcare services throughout her numerous career achievements. She helped craft and spearhead the passage of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which provides free or low cost, comprehensive health care services to over 170,000 Pennsylvania children, and is available in nearly all 50 states. Under her leadership at PCCY, she also created Give Kids Sight Day, an annual event The Eye Institute of Salus University participates in, which provides complimentary vision care to children in need – the core mission of Looking Out for Kids. In the words of PCCY Health Policy Director Colleen McCauley, Shelly works from the premise that “all kids are our kids,” making her a true standout leader and advocate for children’s health and well-being.

More About the Lighthouse Award
More About the Eleventh Annual Event
The eleventh annual “Looking Out for Kids” (LOFK) charity fundraiser will be held on Saturday, November 11, at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, Pa. The event helps support some of the Philadelphia area’s most vulnerable children by raising money through not only corporate support, but an online auction too. New this year, guests can bid on exclusive event-only auction items in addition to items listed in the online auction, which opens with a preview on September 14. Each week, additional exciting items will be added.

Emmy-winning NBC10 news anchor and reporter Rosemary Connors will co-host the evening as guests enjoy dinner, drinks and dancing. This year, the University and The Eye Institute will honor Shelly Yanoff, former executive director of Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY), as the second “Looking Out for Kids” Lighthouse Award recipient. The Lighthouse Award was established by Salus University in 2016 to honor those who are beacons of light and sources of strength in the community in which they live, work, and serve, above and beyond their occupations. Ms. Yanoff’s tireless commitment to improving the lives of the Philadelphia region’s children by developing initiatives and advocating for quality healthcare, child care, public education and family stability embodies the meaning of the Lighthouse Award.
