The Eye Institute’s doctors provide expert diagnosis and treatment for uveitis, an inflammation in the eye that affects the area around the iris, the colored part of the eye. If left untreated, uveitis can lead to serious complications, including glaucoma, cataracts, or even vision loss. Our goal is to reduce inflammation, relieve discomfort, and protect your eyesight with individualized care.
Patients should consider scheduling an exam if they experience:
- Redness of the eye
- Eye pain or soreness
- Sensitivity to light or trouble looking at bright lights
- Pain when moving the eye
Uveitis can develop for different reasons. It may occur after an eye injury, as part of an autoimmune disease, or sometimes without a clear cause.
Treatment depends on the cause of the condition and may include prescription steroids (topical, oral, IV, or injection), dilating eyedrops, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen for pain and swelling, immunomodulatory therapy, or surgery.
