Next Real World Diabetes Series Scheduled at The Eye Institute

Want to learn more about managing your diabetes? Then the Real World Diabetes series at The Eye Institute of Drexel University, a free diabetes education program for all patients, will teach you what you need to know about life with diabetes.

Sessions will begin Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, to Nov. 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Topics will include:

• What is Diabetes?
• What’s Cooking?
• Dining with Diabetes.
• Feeling Good: Physically and Mentally.
• Preventing Complications: Throughout Your Body.
• Preventing Complications: Eyes and Ears.
• Whole Health Screening Day.
• SMART Goals and Behavior Change Techniques.

Healthcare professionals will be available to discuss how diabetes affects your entire body - physically and mentally, including vision and hearing. Optional HbA1c, weight, blood pressure, and hearing screenings will be available at no cost.

“Education about how to live well with diabetes is invaluable. Patients who understand the role of nutrition, physical activity, and stress management in diabetes see significant benefit in their glucose numbers and overall health,” said Cara Orr, MMS, PA-C, associate professor in the Salus at Drexel Physician Assistant (PA) Studies department and coordinator of the Real World Diabetes program. “I encourage every patient with diabetes to participate in diabetes education - it is just as powerful as seeing their healthcare provider and taking medication.” 

All sessions will be held at The Eye Institute, 1200 W. Godfrey Ave., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19141. Please note that this is a series, so attendance at each session is strongly recommended.
