Fine motor skills are necessary for handwriting, coloring and scissor skills, handling utensils, managing clothing and tying shoes. These fun activities promote the movement and control of the fingers. They don’t require much to set up and you can modify them based on the needs of your children.
- Use a clothespin or chip clip to sort a pile of pom-poms by color or size
- Drop pom-poms into bottles with different sized openings. To make it more challenging, your child can hold multiple pom-poms in their palm and manipulate them in order to drop them one at a time into the bottle or use a bottle with a narrow opening
- Dip pom-poms or cotton balls into paint and use them as a paintbrush
- Write numbers and letters on a dry erase board and erase the writing with a pom-pom or cotton ball. You can put tape over paper/cardboard to make your own dry erase board
*Use cotton balls if you don’t have any pom-poms at home!
