Dr. Melissa Trego
In this lecture, Dr. Melissa Trego will review the anatomical and physiological basis for age-related cataract changes. The course will also highlight recent studies that discuss the use of lanosterol (a naturally occurring steroid) and stem cells in the management and treatment of cataracts. Management and treatment implications for optometrists will round out this informative discussion.
Dr. Trego is the interim dean of the Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry and associate dean of Optometric Academic Affairs at the University. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004, and obtained her PhD from Cardiff University in 2009.
Dr. Elise Ciner
Dr. Elise Ciner will provide a brief overview and update on clinical color vision testing: what’s available, when and how to refer, ‘cures’ for color blindness that patients may inquire about, and clinical cases from The Eye Institute of Salus University.
Dr. Ciner is an associate professor at Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and co-director of the Special Populations Assessment and Rehabilitation Center at the University. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry, and completed a residency in vision training at the State University of New York, College of Optometry.
These sessions are open to local eye care providers at no charge. COPE approval has been submitted for these sessions. All sessions will be held in the Toland Classroom on the upper level of The Eye Institute from 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. For your convenience, please use the Spencer Avenue staff and student parking lot and entrance.
