Sprucing up Philadelphia’s Garden District: TEI Chestnut Hill Undergoes Equipment Upgrades

The Eye Institute Chestnut HillThe Eye Institute (TEI) at Chestnut Hill is excited to announce that renovations and equipment upgrades have started and are expected to be completed by late May.

Renovations include the installation of auto phoropters – an automated ophthalmic testing device, also known as a refractor – in five of the examination rooms. Auto phoropters allow TEI doctors to be more efficient when integrating data from patient records and refracting devices and makes comparing old and new prescriptions more simple. The new equipment will also save time while yielding the same accurate results as the traditional phoropter.

“Chestnut Hill will now have cutting-edge technology making it a modern clinical facility and reminiscent of what many clinics will look like in the future,” said Dr. Carlo Pelino, chief at Chestnut Hill. “It will also allow PCO students to be exposed to technology that every clinic may have in the future.”

Chestnut Hill New EquipmentNot only will the new equipment help serve the patients and community of Chestnut Hill better, it will also benefit the Salus University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) students who see patients daily.

“We’re very excited to be able to outfit the entire Chestnut Hill clinic with this new technology,” said John Gaal, vice president of Clinical Operations. “With this equipment, we’re able to expose patients – and students – to the latest generation of digital refractive technology.”

Other changes include new signage; remodeling of the front desk area, which will be moved and expanded for better accessibility for patients; and a renovation of the prescreening area, which will be larger and more accommodating. There will also be an additional examination room installed to increase patient visits and facilitate patient flow.
